Hi, I am Andrew Steven Boima a member at open team/source. Today I want us to talk about what I have titled as OUR HABITS AND WORK (PART ONE)
Workers,
Employer and even CEO makes decision in the workplace that sometime are not habits
of virtue in the workplace.
There are situations
at the workplace that are stopping everyday workers to act ineffective. This is
because sometimes our voices are not being heard when we try bringing them to notice.
Why are some
workers not effect or efficient at their workplace?
The simple answer
is Habit at workplace. In the workplace, we all have different skills, talent,
and interest. The big question is, how many of today’s employer do really care
about our interest at the workplace? How do you make someone effective or efficient
at the workplace or even motivate someone’s insight to see your business or
organization as not just an economic means, but as their own business? That
habit of workers running/seeing your business as if it were theirs.
Well I have
few points to make today relating to the above questions.
First, Employer
and CEO’s need to understand their employees. If you are not listening how
would you know what’s on their mind? Being effective and efficient at the workplace
means you know what you are doing and that you are good at what you do. But
what about if you were not good at what you do, or you do not have great interest
in what you do? This is the part that we as employee needs to speak up. At the
same time, how do we speak up if we don’t have someone listening or willing to
hear our interest.
Habits at the workplace counts a lot towards effective and efficient production.
There are so many posts of work where different people at workplace can be efficient.
This is where HR’s need to stand up or improve on. You need to know each one interests
and talent at the workplace, what they are good at or what they can be better
with as well as what they are not good at. If a worker is good at marketing and
you have that department in your organization, negotiate his/her interest and
support that worker. If he/she is good at designing, negotiate with them about
it even if they were hired to do something different. This is about being
effective and efficient in their day to day work not just because you want them
to work. One big ideology HRM’s should know is that, most people apply for
position that they think they can manage or handle, not because it’s their interest
or they love doing it. It is not bad to work at all, but are you happy with
what you are doing every day? Is there a
better way you can improve your working skills? This question can only be
answer between you and your HR. It is good for us to know and understand in any
organization what people love doing and find interest in doing. Most time we do
not speak up with the fear that we might lose our current job. My big point
here is, it’s not just about work or living, but being better and efficient at
the workplace.
When you
know your workers and motivate their skills, they tend to love the workplace and
even the tendency falling for your business as if it were theirs. On the other
hand, if an individual is just working because they need the money, it will
come to time that they will stop being efficient or you might even lose them
not because of money, because they’ve seen something that they have interest in
or love doing somewhere else. Some organization tend not to give people job they
love doing simple because they know you are good at it and they do not want to
value you for it, so instead they tend to leave you doing something you do not
love or find interest in doing which cause most workers not to be effective.
In this new
normal, what I think organization should start doing is encourage workers and
give them jobs/work they love doing. If you think you can not value them you negotiate
it and let them know you really value or appreciate their work. Trust me when I
say this, some employees do not value you, even with all your hard work. If you
are value at your workplace, thank you for your hard work and keep it up. If you
are not, then try to learn a useful habit that bring peace and joy in your
everyday life at the workplace.
TO HR and CEO’s, If you very well know that
there are two positions and I can be very effective and efficient in one of
them, please do allow me to work in that position which can bring effectiveness
and efficiency. You feel it, you know it, and can see it every day.
